Imphal, Nov 6:
Meitei Leepun has expressed deep appreciation to the Thadou community for endorsing National Register of Citizens (NRC) aimed at identifying illegal immigrants in Manipur. The organization described this stance as a commendable move that highlights a shared commitment to protect the interests of indigenous communities and uphold the integrity of the state.
In a press statement, Meitei Leepun highlighted the challenges faced by indigenous communities over the past two years, particularly since the violent events of May 3, 2023. The group cited ongoing hardships, including loss of lives and property, due to attacks allegedly launched by illegal immigrants. Welcoming the Thadou community’s recent resolution taken in Guwahati, Meitei Leepun described it as a positive step toward restoring stability and security in Manipur.
The organization also called upon other communities across Manipur to unite in protecting the state’s heritage and promoting its oneness. “Together, we can ensure lasting peace and shield future generations from the adverse impacts of unchecked infiltration,” the statement added.
