Imphal, Nov 3: According to book prescribed by the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research) for CBSE, New Delhi, Meitei along with Naga and Kuki of Manipur are being taught as tribe of Manipur and Nagaland.
This is being stated by an organisation called League of Valiant Envoys of Society in a press released signed by its President L. Rabichandra.
The statement further said that in the book Silver Living issued for Environmental Studies for Class V, Meiteis are described, recognised as tribe of Nagaland and Manipur at Page No. 55/56.
The book is authored by Anjana Malhotra and published by Sapphire (India) Publishers Pvt. Ltd.
While drawing the attention of both the central and the state government to include in the ST category, the organisation said that if Meitei could not be recognised as the Scheduled Tribe than the government should immediately ban the book prescribed by the NCERT for Class 5 of CBSE students which is being studied across the country.
