Meitei Alliance urges 10 Kuki MLAs to foster peace

IT News
Imphal, Aug 8:

The Meitei Alliance has condemned a letter sent by 10 MLAs from Manipur, representing Kuki and related communities, to India’s Prime Minister on August 2, 2024. The letter accused the Home Minister of orchestrating a “sinister design” for an “ethnic cleansing campaign” against their communities.
The letter challenges the Home Ministry’s authority in internal security matters, specifically criticizing the relocation of two Assam Rifles battalions from Manipur for counter-insurgency operations. This decision, made by military planners for India’s internal security, was alleged by the Kuki MLAs to be influenced by the Manipur government.
The Meitei Alliance rebukes these accusations, labeling them defamatory, anti-national, and derogatory. “These 10 MLAs have been misleading their communities and are now resorting to lies. How can any responsible legislature in India claim that the Government would relocate or withdraw security forces to enable genocide within the country?” stated the Alliance. The replacement of the Assam Rifles with the CRPF was questioned in a manner that portrayed the latter as a sectarian force with a “sinister design” against Kuki communities.
The Meitei Alliance further acknowledged the efforts to bring peace in Manipur, highlighting the Cachar agreement between the Meitei and Hmar communities in the Jiribam district, which was unfortunately disrupted by arson attacks on Meitei houses. The Alliance urged the 10 Kuki MLAs to take actions that could promote peace in the state instead.
“We implore the 10 Kuki MLAs to work towards peace and harmony, rather than inciting fear and division with unfounded accusations,” the Alliance concluded.
