Meira Paibi condemn assault on former DESAM president

The Advance Women Society Apunba Meira Paibi Awang Sekmai has condemned the alleged assault on former Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) president Mayengbam Somorjit, stating that he was attacked on false accusations and subjected to severe physical abuse.
The condemnation was issued during a press meet held at Awang Sekmai Bazar, where the organisation’s president, Urshram Amubi, addressed media persons.
Urshram Amubi stated that the ongoing crisis in Manipur has continued for over three years without a concrete resolution, while incidents of violence, including attacks on civilians and children, have been reported. She expressed concern that, at such a critical juncture, the assault on Mayengbam Somorjit has further aggravated tensions.
Referring to the public discourse surrounding the April 25 programme “Leingakta Wahang 7 Hangba” organised under the aegis of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), she said the incident involving Somorjit is highly condemnable and undermines efforts to seek accountability and clarity on the prevailing situation.
The organisation demanded that those involved in the assault be identified and brought before the public. It also cautioned against the spread of misleading narratives surrounding the incident and urged all concerned to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions.
Calling for unity, Urshram Amubi stressed the need for collective efforts to uncover the truth behind the ongoing crisis and work towards restoring normalcy in the state.
