In a gesture of solidarity amid continuing ethnic tensions, internally displaced Meetei families staying at the Kwakta prefabricated relief camp have extended humanitarian assistance to Tangkhul families recently displaced by fresh violence in Litan.
The Tangkhul families were forced to flee their homes following reported incidents of arson and are currently taking shelter in relief camps.
On Sunday, Meetei internally displaced persons residing at the Kwakta camp—who themselves have been living in temporary shelters since being uprooted on May 3 nearly three years ago—collected essential relief materials for the affected families.
The donated items included rice, salt, edible oil, pulses, clothes, blankets and other daily necessities. The relief materials were handed over at a designated location in the southern part of Saikul under Kangpokpi district for onward distribution to the displaced Tangkhul families.
Sources associated with the relief effort stated that the initiative was undertaken to convey a message of humanitarian concern and shared suffering, irrespective of community lines.
