Massive tree plantation organised near Olympic Park, Sangaithel

In a major green initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and peace, over 550 saplings of various species were planted this morning at the complex of the Socio Economic and Environment Development Society (SEEDS), located adjacent to the Olympic Park in Sangaithel, Imphal.
The plantation drive was participated by members of SEEDS, Brigadier A. Boral, VSM, 9 Sector Assam Rifles, Padma Shri awardee and Olympian N. Kunjarani Devi, who currently serves as Commandant of GC CRPF Langjing, officials from the Indian Railways, and staff from the Forest and Environment Departments. The event marks a symbolic return to the area after more than two years, underscoring efforts to restore both ecological balance and community harmony in the conflict-affected region.
Brigadier A. Boral, during his visit, remarked that the region has seen a significant decline in violence due to coordinated and tightened security measures. He stated that under his jurisdiction, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with other security forces, had managed to bring the situation under control and that ongoing efforts are focused on enabling both communities to live together peacefully once again.
Padma Shri N. Kunjarani Devi, who actively took part in the plantation, said that normalcy is gradually returning and commended the relentless efforts of the security forces in working towards restoring peace. She appealed to the public to support the initiatives of the security forces and the government in rebuilding a peaceful environment in the state.
Today’s visit also marked the first time in over two years that media representatives and civil society members had accessed the Olympic Park and SEEDS complex. The park features statues of Olympians from Manipur who have represented India on international platforms. Journalists present on the occasion requested N. Kunjarani Devi to pose for a photograph beside her statue, commemorating her contributions to Indian sports.
SEEDS General Secretary Rupachandra Yumnam announced that more plantation drives will be organised in and around the area in collaboration with the Assam Rifles, CRPF, and other stakeholders. He affirmed that the security forces will continue to support SEEDS in its environmental and peace-building efforts.
President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), Bhakta, who also attended the programme, emphasized the vital role journalists can play in promoting environmental awareness and contributing to peace and harmony in society.
The Olympic Park, now under heavy protection by central forces, particularly the Assam Rifles and CRPF, stands as a renewed symbol of hope and peace in a state striving for reconciliation.
