Imphal, June 22 : A discourse on Climate Change and Manipur S tate Action Plan on Climate Change held here on Thursday concluded that massive deforestation causes weather disasters in Manipur. “Massive deforestation in the state in the past few years has a huge impact on the ecological balance causing weather disasters,” said Centre for Social Development secretary Babycha Soraisam at the programme organised by the centre at Classic Hotel, North AOC. She said unseasonal heavy rainfalls, floods and landslides due to deliberate destruction of nature by human are witnessing increasingly by people. Babycha said such human activities leads to ecological imbalance which in turn leads to the natural disaster . She expressed displeasure that the Manipur State Plan on Climate Change set up in 2013 is yet to be implemented in the state till now . Babycha said the state government is responsible for implementing this plan. Copies of the resolutions adopted in the discourse will be sent to the Chief Minister and Prime Minister to initiate certain measures to tackle the state’ s ecological imbalance, she added.
