Mass tree plantation will focus on nurturing the saplings till maturity

The main focus of the mass tree plantation commemorating the World Environment day, 2019 is to make sure that the saplings planted during the observance is properly nurtured till its maturity. Thiswas stated by Director, Education Department,  Thokchom Kirankumar Yesterday at his office chamber at SSA, Babupara.
He said that Education Minister will launch the mass tree plantation at the S. K. Ideal High School, Ngairangbam of Imphal West, Zone-1. As part of the programme around 500 numbers of saplings is being targeted to be planted at the premise of the said school. Stating that necessary preparation for the mass tree plantations is being carried out in full swing, he said that the mass tree plantation is aimed to achieve the target of planting more than 65,000 saplings in and around the educational institutions throughout the State. The initiative is being taken up under the leadership of Education Minister, Thokchom Radheshyam in collaboration with Forest Department and All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU).
Thokchom Kirankumar said that the major thrust of the mass tree plantation is to monitor each sapling and also to make sure that each planted saplings attains maturity. He said regular monitoring of the saplings will be tasked to the teachers and students of the educational institutions. A survey for the saplings planted on the occasion of the World Environment Day will be carried out during the festival of Van Mahotsav in July and in November to verify the number of surviving saplings.
Highlighting the preparations being made by the concerned departments for the mass tree plantations, he elaborated that school from each of the seventeen zones has been selected by the Education Department for the inaugural programme of Tree Plantation on 5th June, 2019. Number of selected schools selected as per district are from Zone 1, Imphal West Is 64, Wangoi, Imphal West 94, Ukhrul 42, Senapati 15, Kamjong 13, Tamenglong 11, Chandel 40, Noney 27, Pherzawl 9, Churachandpur 19, Tengnoupal 14, Kakching 190, Kangpokpi 28, Zone Ii I/E 99, Thoubal 28, Bishnupur 20, Jiribam 108, CBSE 6 and Private Schools 215.
In colleges overall 80 colleges will be participating in the mass tree plantation of the World Environment Day out of which 35 is Government colleges, 10 Government aided colleges and 35 Private colleges.
