Imphal, Feb 7:
Tengnoupal District’s Mission Blind School at Heikakpokpi is facing serious concerns as out of 22 appointed teachers, only 13 are reportedly attending their duties, leaving many students unattended. Expressing dissatisfaction, the Maring Students Union has announced its plan to reveal the names of absent teachers and non-teaching staff to the media.
The issue was highlighted during a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club, Thangjing Hall, where Maring Students Union President, Sontrun Dangshawa, addressed the matter. He stated that while security concerns in the area might have contributed to the situation, the school has been functioning under such conditions for a long time. Despite this, the absenteeism of teachers and staff has been more pronounced since January of the previous year, affecting students’ education.
Dangshawa further stated that among the 22 appointed teachers, only 15 were actively engaged, while the rest remained absent. Similarly, out of the seven non-teaching staff members, only two were reportedly performing their duties. He also pointed out that some of the teachers cited Heikakpokpi being designated as a “Red Zone” as a reason for their absence.
The Maring Students Union urged the principal and the school administration to take immediate action to address the issue. If the situation remains unresolved, the union warned that they would release the names of those failing in their responsibilities to the media to ensure accountability.
