Maoist Communist Party, Manipur today announced that the outfit will impose 12 hours’ general strike in the four valley districts of the state namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal on the 22nd February, 2015 with effect from 6.00 am till 6.00 pm.
A press statement released today by Comrade Nonglen Meitei, Secretary Publicity and Propaganda, Maoist Communist Party, Manipur said that even though the outfit had appealed to all the schools to be secular since 2012, some Catholic Schools became hindrance in the educational policy of the state. Five Catholic Schools namely Little Flower School, St. Joseph School, Nirmalabas School, Catholic School Canchipur and St. Jyoti Mantripukhri are spreading Christianity in schools. It alleged that Moral Education, an additional subject, taught in these schools, is a medium of spreading Christianity. Besides, they built churches inside the school campus. This gives a wrong image to secularism.
It further said that if the Catholic Schools do not stop spreading religion through teaching of Moral Education and worshipping at schools by 20th of February, 2015, Maoist will impose the 12 hours long general strike. It said that Maoist is calling general strike on Sunday as it will not affect the ongoing exams of Class X and XII.
