Akumen Artificial Intelligence, a Startup originating from Manipur, has garnered national recognition following its participation in the Startup Mahakumb held in Delhi from March 18 to 20, 2024, where they had the opportunity to engage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Selected among six Startups out of over 1500 contenders nationwide, Akumen AI previously secured victory in the NITI Aayog ANIC Grand Challenge. Supported by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, through the Meta MEITY Accelerator Programme, Akumen AI is at the forefront of technological advancement, focusing on the development of smart wearable glasses designed specifically for the visually impaired.
These glasses, powered by AI, encompass a range of features including an inbuilt camera, speaker, mic, and sensors. Utilizing a sophisticated AI/ML pipeline, the device interprets visual data from the camera, transforming it into auditory output. This aids in navigation, object detection, currency identification, facial recognition, and text reading from captured images.
The device distinguishes itself by its affordability, providing an accessible alternative to expensive assistive devices. Additionally, it prioritizes the incorporation of local Indian languages, ensuring inclusivity across diverse communities nationwide.
