A serious allegation shakes Manipur University after multiple female students accused two male teachers of conducting inappropriate body searches inside the examination hall without prior warning or consent.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 4 during the B.Ed 2nd semester examination under the Department of Teachers’ Education. As part of a flying squad inspection, two male and one female teacher entered the exam hall. According to the students, the two male teachers approached from behind and inserted their hands into the blazers and shirt pockets of several female students under the pretext of searching for unfair means—an act the students have described as “daylight molestation.”
Seventeen female students have signed a formal complaint letter, which was submitted to the university authorities the same day. Despite the complaint, students allege that no concrete steps have been taken by the administration so far. The affected students said they waited for a response from the night of July 4, but received none. They further claimed that one of the male teachers returned and conducted the same pocket check on at least one female student again.
Dean of Students’ Welfare, Ch. Ibohal Singh, acknowledged the seriousness of the matter and confirmed that a meeting was held in his office with the complainants, concerned authorities, and Head of Department Dr. Premlata. Due to the gravity of the issue, it has been escalated to higher university authorities for thorough inquiry.
University officials stated that penalties will be determined after the inquiry report is submitted and the full facts are verified.
Meanwhile, the students have begun to protest, demanding immediate action, including termination or a minimum two-year suspension of the teachers involved.
