The Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, Fit India Campaign Committee (FICC), and Fit India Club (FIC) at Manipur University, Canchipur, organized the “Observance of National Sports Day and Bicycle Rally” on the theme “Sport for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies” today at 7:00 A.M. at the Traffic Point, Manipur University, as part of the Fit India Movement.
The event was graced by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Olympian Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Chairman of FICC and FIC, and Dean of Students Welfare, Prof. L. Thambal Singh, Head of PESS, Prof. Dr. Sanjib Singh Nepram, Bicycle Mayor and Medical Superintendent at RIMS, Imphal, and Prof. Premlata Maisnam, Dean of the School of Education, among other dignitaries.
The observance began with a floral tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, in honor of National Sports Day, celebrated on his birthday. As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for her performance in the Paris Olympics by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh and Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar of Manipur University.
Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, convenor of FICC and FIC, welcomed the dignitaries and emphasized the importance of the event. Prof. Dr. Sanjib Singh Nepram called for making the Manipur University campus a vehicle-free zone and encouraged students to adopt cycling as a daily habit.
The event featured a bicycle rally led by dignitaries and attended by around 300 cyclists, including members of the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA). The rally started from Manipur University, passed through key city landmarks, and returned to the university.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Ksh. Ranjan Singh, a member of Fit India Club, Manipur University.
