Manipur Transport Department organises Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha 10K Run in Imphal

The Transport Department, Government of Manipur, organised the Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha National Road Safety Month 10K Run today morning at Kangla West Gate, Imphal, as part of efforts to promote road safety awareness and responsible road behaviour among the public.
The run began at 6:00 am and witnessed active participation from citizens, government officials, students, youth organisations and fitness enthusiasts. Participants from different walks of life came together to highlight the importance of adhering to traffic rules and safeguarding lives on the road, reflecting growing public engagement in road safety initiatives across the state.
The event was formally flagged off by Anurag Bajpai, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport), Government of Manipur. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed that road accidents continue to pose a serious challenge and can be significantly reduced through responsible driving, respect for traffic regulations and heightened public awareness. He observed that road safety is not solely the responsibility of the authorities but a shared social obligation that requires cooperation from pedestrians, drivers and commuters alike.
The 10K run was organised as part of the nationwide observance of National Road Safety Month and aimed to reinforce the message of “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha.” The initiative sought to encourage safer road practices while also promoting healthy lifestyles through physical activity, particularly among young people.
The programme concluded peacefully with effective coordination by the Transport Department, supported by various line departments, police personnel and volunteers who ensured smooth traffic management and participant safety throughout the event. The successful conduct of the run underlined Manipur’s commitment to creating safer roads, reducing traffic related fatalities and fostering a culture of informed and responsible road use across the state.
