Imphal, July 12: Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu of Manipur is leading the Indian Women’s Hockey squad to Rio Olympics.
The 24-year-old defender will lead the National squad as team captain. The selection board has also named another woman from the state, Thokchom Anuradha Devi (Forward) to the Indian women’s Hockey team for Rio Olympic.
India’s 16-member both men and women squads for Rio Olympics was announced today afternoon in New Delhi by President of Hockey India, Narinder Batra.
This is the first time a Manipuri woman is leading the Indian Hockey team to Olympic.
In the Men’s Hockey team, two more Manipuri lads Khadangbam Kothajit Singh (defender) and Kangujam Chinglensana Singh (midfielder) have been included.
The women team is placed in Group B with Argentina, Australia, Great Britain, Japan and United States, while the men’s team is also placed in Group B with Argentina, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Netherlands.
