Manipur Police organises 10-km Marathon

Mayang Imphal Police Station, under Imphal West District Police, organised a 10-km marathon today as part of the observance of National Sports Day, with the theme “Fit Body, Strong Mind, United Spirit — Health Today, Stronger Tomorrow.”

The marathon, organised in honour of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, started from Mayang Imphal Police Station, passed through Mayang Imphal Bazaar, Konchak Phaoba and Uchiwa Leirak before concluding at the police station.

A total of 365 men and women participated in the event.

In the men’s category, Zabed Hussain of Lilong secured first position, followed by Yumnam Pushiba of Wangoo and Yumnam Berlin of Heirok Part-II. In the women’s category, Nishmilet Ayekpam of Mayang Imphal Maning Khunou stood first, followed by SAI Chanu of Mayang Imphal Khunou and Usham Bebi Devi of Kanto Sabal.

Certificates and cash prizes were presented to the top three finishers in both categories, while all participants received T-shirts and certificates.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayang Imphal Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Taiyenjam Clitona said the event aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being and a healthy lifestyle, particularly among the youth.

He said Imphal West District Police has been conducting drug-awareness programmes in collaboration with schools, colleges, clubs and civil society organisations, and called for collective efforts to promote a drug-free and peaceful society.
