Manipur High Court today stayed the order of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker’s tribunal which disqualified the MLA of Wangoi Assembly constituency on May 27 this year. According to source from the Manipur High court, the stay order for the disqualification of MLA Lukhoi was passed by the court of Manipur’s Chief Justice Lakshmi Kanta Mahapatra today after hearing plea from the counsel of the MLA. The MLA pleads the High Court’s intervention to the order of the Tribunal of the Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly which disqualify him.
The court asked the Manipur Speaker’s tribunal to revoke the disqualification order of MLA O Lukhoi.
MLA O Lukhoi was disqualified along with two other trinamool Congress MLAs – Khumukcham Joykishan of Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency and Th. Bishwajit of Thongju Assembly constituency on May 27, 2015.
In the petition , O Lukhoi also seeks the court intervention to hold re-poll in his constituency, however, the Chief Justice said that as the court does not have jurisdiction to any decision of the Election Commission of India untill the first matter is resolved, the high court does not have any discretion to hold the election process.
Later, the Manipur High Court scheduled the next hearing of the court on August 19, 2015.
