Imphal, Aug 3:
The Manipur High Court today directed to maintain status quo at the proposed burial site in Haolai Khopi village of Churachandpur district where the Kuki-Zo community had planned a burial service for 35 people who were killed in the ethnic strife.
The HC order was passed by a bench of Acting Chief Justice MV Muralidharan and justice a. Guneshwar Sharma after a hearing at 6 am. Today
The State Government and the Central Government and their law enforcing agencies/personnel as well as the public belonging to both communities are directed to maintain status quo ante of the land in question till the next date.
The High Court also directed to take appropriate effective steps to control the law and order problem in and around the land in question.
Further, the HC directed the Central Government and the State Government along with the respondents and any aggrieved parties are directed to make an effort to make an amicable settlement in this matter. The private respondents and all the representatives of the Kuki-Zo community are also given the liberty to apply to the official respondents for allotment of land for the purpose of burial within a period of 1 (one) week.
