Imphal, July 1:
Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey has appealed to all those concerned to resolve the conflict through peaceful and amicable dialogue as all the communities have been living together peacefully from time immemorial and stressed the need to maintain the status quo ante of age-old coexistence.
The governor expressed anguish over the unprecedented ethnic clash that broke out in the state since May 3, and condemned the heinous killing of several innocent people, injuring many and damaging several houses and properties, a Raj Bhavan statement said.
She is of the view that the inhuman incident will adversely affect the youths of the state, particularly children who are the future pillar. She further appealed to all people, especially the womenfolk to refrain from blocking security forces who are discharging responsibilities for the safety of the people.
She also advised the people not to believe in any baseless rumours and desist from them as far as practicable. The governor further urged everyone to abstain from arson and asserted that nobody should take the law into their hands.
In the meantime, former Chief Secretary of Manipur Rajesh Kumar, IAS called on the Governor of Manipur, Miss Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan. Rajesh Kumar has completed his tenure as an Indian Administrative Service officer. The Governor applauded the former Chief Secretary of Manipur for his outstanding and remarkable service and expressed gratitude for his efforts in transforming the state. Miss Anusuiya Uikey wished Rajesh Kumar the most rewarding years of life after retirement.
