Imphal, Dec 29:
The 44th anniversary of “Meira Paibi Houdokhiba Numit” was commemorated today at G.M. Hall, Imphal, organized by the All Manipur Women’s Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj). The event marked the founding of the Nupi Samaj, the first Meira Paibi organization, which was instrumental in championing the rights and safety of the Manipuri people.
Speaking at the occasion, Lourembam Nganbi Leima, President of the Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), recounted the origin of Nupi Samaj. She shared the historic moment when Manipuri women, bearing torches, courageously marched to an army camp to demand the release of a person captured by the Indian Army. This iconic event symbolized the beginning of the Meira Paibi movement, a legacy of resilience and unity among Manipuri women.
Lourembam Nganbi Leima also expressed grave concerns about the current socio-political situation in Manipur. “Today, the Indian government is waging a proxy war, and unfortunately, the Manipur government has fallen into its trap,” she remarked, emphasizing the challenges faced by the state amid escalating tensions and conflicts.
The ceremony brought together leaders and activists, including Thokchom Ramani Leima, President of Nupi Samaj, and other representatives from various social organizations.
