Implement Action Plan for Climate Change – CRAM
Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur (CRAM) has urged the government to discuss about the implementation of the Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change (MSAPCC), 2013 by passing a Bill in the upcoming state assembly session.
Talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Jiten Yumnam, Secretary of CRAM said that the increasing developmental works being underway to meet the demand of the people has tremendously affected the environment of the state. Construction of big dams, exploration of oil and other infrastructures setting up has become a threat to the survival of the people. He said the Action Plan should be properly implemented to assure safeguarding of the environment.
While implementing the action plan, the government must follow the UN norm of the Free Prior and Informed Consent before any development activities which will affect the natural form of the climate and environment as well as Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Forest Deforestation (REDD) must not be implement as this will make unfriendly environment for the human survival, he added.
