The Water Resources Department, Government of Manipur, in its daily flood report issued at 10 a.m. on Saturday, stated that all major rivers in the state were flowing below their respective flood levels. It added that although certain parts of the state had witnessed rainfall during the last 24 hours, the overall river condition remained within safe limits.
The department informed that Kangpokpi recorded 13 mm of rainfall, Saikul 12 mm, Litan 1 mm, Raj Bhavan 11 mm, Lamphel 13 mm, and Jiribam 7 mm. However, no significant rainfall had been recorded during the present day up to 6 a.m.
Officials explained that the Imphal River at Minuthong stood at 785.900 mm, which was below the flood level of 786.900 mm, while at Lilong bridge it measured 780.350 mm, lower than the flood level of 781.350 mm. The Iril River at Irilbung bridge registered 786.700 mm, still below the flood level of 787.700 mm. The Nambul River at Nambul bridge stood at 781.175 mm against a flood level of 782.175 mm. At Thoubal bridge, the Thoubal River was recorded at 778.915 mm, below its flood level of 779.915 mm, and the Manipur River at Ithai barrage registered 769.280 mm, slightly below its flood level of 769.300 mm.
The report also mentioned that certain gates of the Ithai Barrage had been opened by 1.0 m, 3.0 m, and 1.1 m respectively, while the rest remained closed. It was further clarified that the gates of Phumlou Barrage, Shamushang Regulator, and Thoubal Barrage were largely closed, except for one gate of the Thoubal Barrage which had been opened by 0.7 m.
The department said that the situation was being closely monitored and that the Main Flood Control Room at Khuyathong continued to remain operational for emergency response.
