Machi villagers seek better healthcare, school infrastructure

Residents of Machi village have urged the Manipur Government and concerned authorities to improve healthcare services and repair the deteriorating local school building, citing persistent difficulties faced by people in the remote area.

The concerns were raised by Machi Village Chairman M. Vosco Maring during a discussion on the development of Machi and neighbouring villages under the theme “Peaceful Coexistence” at Machi Community Hall.

The programme was jointly organised by the United Peoples Front (UPF) Manipur, National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO), Manipur Peace and Integrity Council (MAPI Council), and Machi and Neighbouring Village Authority.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the programme, Village Chairman M. Vosco Maring said the Primary Health Centre (PHC), located around four to five kilometres from the village, lacked adequate medical services.

He alleged that doctors and nurses were not consistently available and that the centre remained closed on Sundays despite the possibility of medical emergencies.

He also highlighted the lack of proper residential quarters for healthcare staff, which, he said, affected the effective functioning of the centre.

Village Chairman M. Vosco Maring appealed to the Health Department and other concerned authorities to ensure round-the-clock medical services and address the shortage of essential facilities. He also called for urgent improvement of the local school building.

Several representatives of civil society organisations and neighbouring villages attended the discussion, including UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra, NIPCO president Oinam Premjit, MAPI Council president K.C. Romio, CADA president Hijam Priyokumar and AMSU president Lukram Malangba, among others.
