MLA M. Rameshwar Singh has been appointed as the new Leader of the National People’s Party (NPP) Legislature Party in Manipur. The appointment was confirmed through an official communication issued on November 22, 2025, by NPP National President Conrad K. Sangma to Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh. The letter stated that the nomination had the unanimous support of all NPP legislators and directed the Speaker to update the Assembly records accordingly. A handwritten note on the document also instructed that the Speaker be informed immediately of the change.
The development marks a significant shift within the party’s Manipur unit as the NPP positions itself for emerging political realignments in the region. The smooth transition indicates a deliberate organisational restructuring aimed at strengthening the party’s role in state politics.
Political observers believe the appointment of M. Rameshwar Singh reflects the party’s attempt to present a cohesive front and recalibrate its influence in the evolving political landscape of the Northeast.
