The League of Indigenous People’s Upliftment (LIPUL) has warned of serious consequences if those involved in the mishandling of Mayengbam Somorjit fail to surrender, following an incident during a public rally organised by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity on Saturday.
In a statement, LIPUL General Secretary A.B. Elangbam expressed concern over the developments at the “Leingak ta Meeyam gi Wahang Khongchat” programme, stating that such incidents are unacceptable amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The organisation noted that COCOMI has played a key role since May 3, 2023, including evacuating stranded civilians from Churachandpur and assisting displaced people from Moreh and other vulnerable areas, while also cautioning against actions that could worsen the situation.
LIPUL alleged continued attacks by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist groups in vulnerable and hill areas, adding that such developments have heightened tensions.
Terming the incident involving Mayengbam Somorjit as serious, LIPUL demanded that all those responsible be identified and handed over immediately, warning that failure to ensure accountability could trigger further unrest.
