The Lions Club of Imphal Leimarol, under Lions Clubs International District 322D, organized an Eyewear Collection and Recycling Drive today. The event was held at Brahmapur Bamon Leikai, opposite YCB Club in Imphal East.
The programme commenced at 2:00 PM and witnessed the participation of local residents and volunteers who came forward to donate used and unused eyeglasses. The collected spectacles will be refurbished and later distributed to individuals in need, particularly those from low-income backgrounds and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) staying in various relief camps across the state.
Members of the Lions Club present at the occasion highlighted the significance of vision care and the transformative impact a simple pair of glasses can have on one’s life. They noted that access to proper eyewear enables children to learn better, helps adults engage in productive work, and allows the elderly to regain a sense of independence.
“Vision is often taken for granted. Yet for many, something as basic as a pair of spectacles remains out of reach,” a club representative remarked. “Through this initiative, we aim to bridge that gap and contribute to the larger mission of preventing avoidable blindness.”
The collected eyewear will undergo proper sorting, cleaning, and refurbishing before being handed over to those in need. The drive aligns with Lions Clubs International’s long-standing global commitment to vision care and community service.
