The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Bishnupur District Branch marked its 13th Foundation Day with a day-long Awareness cum Voluntary Blood Donation Camp held at Kumbi Awang High School today. The event was organised under the leadership of IRCS Bishnupur President and DC Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam, IAS, and Chairman Dr. Wahengbam Gulapi.
The camp was jointly organised in collaboration with Kumbi Ideal Youth Development Organisation (KIYDO), People’s Resource Development Association Bishnupur, New Life Foundation (NLF) Manipur, Chhayatap Foundation, the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, National Health Mission (NHM), and Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS).
Speaking at the occasion, IRCS Bishnupur Chairman Dr. Wahengbam Gulapi, RIMS Resident Doctor Dr. Nongmaithem Shivarjit, KIYDO President Kh. Netaji, and NLF PRO Sanasam Rebika stressed the importance of voluntary blood donation and community participation in humanitarian activities.
During the programme, a total of 48 individuals from the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Relief Camp at Kumbi Awang High School registered for donation. However, five were found medically unfit. Ultimately, 43 units of blood were successfully donated, including nine women. Among the donors was Huidrom Shyamchand, Joint Secretary of IRCS Bishnupur, who marked his 56th blood donation.
