Lilong Haoreibi College students oppose Principal’s transfer, warn agitation

The Students’ Union of Lilong Haoreibi College has urged the concerned authorities to halt the transfer of Principal Prof. Md. A. Sattar Shah, initiated under RR No. 767 dated May 13, 2026, warning of agitation if the order is implemented.
In a statement, the Union claimed that the college had witnessed significant academic and administrative progress under Prof. Shah’s leadership. It stated that several longstanding issues affecting the institution were resolved after he assumed charge and that the college has since emerged as one of the leading higher education institutions in the state.
The Union highlighted the introduction of the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), describing it as a landmark achievement that made Lilong Haoreibi College the first college in Manipur to secure the programme.
Maintaining that the proposed transfer does not reflect the views of the Students’ Union or the student community, the Union expressed concern that the move could adversely affect the academic environment of the college. It also noted that Prof. Shah is nearing retirement and questioned the necessity of the transfer at this stage.
The Union appealed to the authorities to withdraw the transfer process and warned that students, along with local student bodies, would launch democratic forms of agitation, including closure of the college, if the transfer is carried out.
