DM University VC calls for self-reliance at student development programme

A student development programme on the theme “Entrepreneurship and Self-Reliance” was held at Free Progress Academy, Konthoujam, with speakers highlighting the importance of skill development, entrepreneurship and economic self-sufficiency.
Addressing the programme, Prof. W. Chandbabu, Vice-Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University and Convenor of Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, North East, said self-reliance is essential for building a strong and developed nation. He stated that organisations such as Swadeshi Jagaran Manch and Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan are working towards the goal of making India a developed country by 2047, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prof. Chandbabu said Swadeshi Jagaran Manch has been undertaking various initiatives to promote self-reliance at the household level and strengthen the economic foundations of families. He urged greater use of locally manufactured products and encouraged efforts to increase indigenous production as a means to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
He also observed that educational institutions have a vital role in equipping students with practical skills and values beyond academic learning. According to him, formal education alone may not be sufficient if individuals are unable to apply knowledge effectively in real-life situations.
Speaking at the event, Free Progress Academy Principal Laidhangbam Indrakumar said the school has begun preparations for the implementation of activities under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from the 2027 academic session. He appealed to parents to continue supporting the institution’s efforts to enhance academic standards.
Indrakumar further noted that the school has consistently recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in the HSLC examination and expressed confidence that continued cooperation from parents and stakeholders would help the institution achieve greater success in the future.
