Life on NH-2 put to complete halt as total shut down underway

Imphal, Aug 8: The newly created Kangpokpi district today witness the first total shut down in protest against the alleged encroachment of the district while acquiring land for the construction of the national Sports University at Koutruk.
The total shut down was announced by civil societies of the district yesterday after staging a mass sit-in-protest. The bandh began from 6 am today and will be end at 6 am tomorrow.
Since early morning today large number of people came out on the National Highway and started burning tyres in between Kanglatombi and Kangpokpi where the district begins. Photo uploaded in social media showed many bandh supporters blocking the road and police trying to control them. Report reaching here said that vehicular movement along the National Highway was put to a complete halt and normal life in the newly created district was completely paralysed.
