Governor AK Bhalla leads the observance
The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, graced the observance of Jana Neta Irawat Day 2025 held at Irawat Square, Lilashing Khongnangkhong, Thangmeiband, Imphal. On the occasion, the Governor paid floral tributes to the statue of Jana Neta Hijam Irawat.
Jana Neta Hijam Irawat (1896–1951), widely revered as Lamyanba, was a prominent social reformer, political leader, and freedom fighter of Manipur. He championed the cause of the poor, peasants, and workers, striving for equality and social justice. His contributions in the fields of education, social upliftment, and his revolutionary zeal for the progress and prosperity of the state remain a lasting legacy.
The observance was also attended by Inner Manipur MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, several MLAs, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Tribal Affairs & Hills), Commissioners, senior officers, and other distinguished guests, who joined in paying homage to the great leader on his birth anniversary.
INDIA Bloc pay tribute to Jananeta Hijam Irabot
The 129th Birth Anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot was observed today at MDU Hall, Imphal, organised by the INDIA Bloc. The event was marked by a keynote address from Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President K. Meghachandra Singh, who highlighted the life, struggles, and enduring relevance of Irabot’s ideas in contemporary Manipur.
In his address, K. Meghachandra Singh recalled Irabot’s fight against feudalism, caste and ethnic discrimination, and exploitation of the poor, emphasizing the continuing need for equality and social justice. He noted Irabot’s work in mobilizing peasants, farmers, and workers for fair wages and land reforms, drawing parallels with the present-day economic hardships faced by small traders and laborers.
The MPCC President also underscored Irabot’s vision of unity across caste, class, and ethnic lines, his democratic spirit, and the importance of inspiring youth through education and social engagement.
Concluding his speech, K. Meghachandra Singh reaffirmed that the ideals of Jananeta Hijam Irabot remain a guiding light for building a just, peaceful, and democratic Manipur.
AMUCO paid tribute to Lamyanba Irabot
The All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) and Thangmeiband United Clubs (TUC) jointly observed the 129th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot at his memorial site at Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband.
Representatives and members of AMUCO, TUC, along with locals of Thangmeiband, paid floral tributes to the statue of the pioneering leader.
Addressing the gathering, AMUCO President Sorokhaibam Sanjoy recalled Irabot’s exceptional qualities and his lifelong dedication to the working-class people. He stated that Irabot’s thoughts and principles, though ahead of his time, continue to remain relevant and inspiring in present-day Manipur.
Irabot Day at Jiribam
At Jiribam the day was observed with solemnity at Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya School Auditorium, Jiribam, on Tuesday. The event was organised by the Jananeta Irawat Memorial Trust (JIMET), Jiribam.
The observance was attended by Ashangbam Biren Singh, former MLA of Jiribam AC, as Chief Guest; Dr. Chandam Kamal Singh, Life Time President of JIMET, as President; Krishna Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam, as Special Guest; Semmi Ramror, MPS, Superintendent of Police, Jiribam; and several other dignitaries as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar highlighted the life, legacy, and sacrifices of Hijam Irawat, stressing the importance of collective effort for peace, well-being, and development, particularly in the present context of Manipur. He also outlined key initiatives taken up by the district administration, including road connectivity, NH-37 improvement, water supply projects, and social welfare schemes.
The programme featured traditional dances by AMAWOVA and prize distribution for March past contingents. Earlier, floral tributes were offered at Irawat Square, Babupara, accompanied by a guard of honour and a March past involving 28 contingents from schools and colleges.
The observance reaffirmed the enduring relevance of Irawat’s vision for social justice and equality.
Irabot Day observed as Green Singjamei campaign
The 129th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was observed under the Green Singjamei Campaign at Singjamei Ima Keithel, organised by the Singjamei Block Congress Committee (SBCC). Oinam Romen Singh, PCC Member of MPCC, led the floral tributes to the life-sized portrait of the pioneering leader.
The celebration featured a two-wheeler bike rally with over 500 participants spreading messages of peace, equality, and communal harmony across Singjamei Assembly Constituency. A mass tree plantation drive was also conducted, and saplings were distributed to encourage households to promote a green environment.
Addressing the media, Oinam Romen Singh hailed Hijam Irabot as a towering figure who fought for the oppressed and downtrodden. He urged the people of Manipur to follow Irabot’s ideals and elect true leaders with a spirit of sacrifice to bring progress and development to the state.
Tribute paid to Lamyanba Irabot at Kakching
The Jana Neta Irabot Ningshing Lup (JNINL), Kakching, celebrated the 129th birth anniversary of Jana-Neta Hijam Irabot today at Irabot Park, Kakching Keithel, highlighting the enduring legacy of the iconic leader.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Keisam Pradipkumar, Chairperson of the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Kshetrimayum Surjit, President of JNINL, Kakching, presided over the function, while Guests of Honour Naoren Sanjitkumar Singh, Chairperson of Kakching Municipal Council; Yengkhom Rajendra Singh, President of Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association; and Uttamkumar Naorem, Chief Editor of IMAGE PAODAM, shared their perspectives on Hijam Irabot’s contributions.
The programme began by paying floral tribute to the statue of Jana Neta Irabot. Highlights included song and dance performances by local schools, speeches, and a lecture by Rinku Khumukcham, Editor of Imphal Times, on the political life of Hijam Irabot, his ideology and today’s Manipur.
Irabot Day Wabagai
The Citizens’ Association for Rural Development (CARD), Wabagai, observed the 129th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot at the EYDMDA Ground, Wabagai Mayai Leikai today.
The function was attended by Wabagai Assembly Constituency MLA Dr. U. Deben attended as the Chief Guest, CARD President Huidrom Kishwarjit as President. Associate Professor Dr. N. Sanatomba of MU, Associate Professor Dr. M. Bobi of JNIMS Medicine Department, Chief Finance Officer of Directorate of Health Services W. Dwijendro, and Range Forest Officer of Social Forestry Division Manipur L. Dinesh graced the occasion as Guests of honour.
Professor Chinglen Maisnam, Head of Department of South Asian Studies, Manipur University, delivered a speech as a resource person.
Meitei Pangal observes Irabot Day
The 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was celebrated today at Kwakta Khuman Public Pond with a series of events organized by the All Meitei Pangal Youths Association (AMPYA) in collaboration with the Manipur Youth Students Union (MYSU). The celebrations featured a Mini Marathon, the 1st Village Level Knowledge Competition 2025, and the inauguration of an Open Gym.
The programme was attended by Moirang A/C MLA Thongam Shanti, Kwakta Zilla Parishad Member Md. Abdul Latip, Kwakta Gram Panchayat Chairperson Md. Habibur Rahman, AMPYA President Moulana Haffizuddin, MYSU President Wahengbam Tanu Chanu, MKPF Chief Advisor Dr. Y. Modhu, school principals, and other community leaders.
The Mini Marathon, themed Run for a Drug-Free Zone, saw participation from 106 youth, while 27 participants competed in the knowledge contest. Awards, citations, and mementos were presented to meritorious students of Classes X and XII, and local youths who excelled in NEET, NET, and Ph.D. programmes were also recognized.
Thoubal District observed the 129th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Irawat
The 129th birth anniversary of the great leader Lamyanba Irawat was observed at various places in Thoubal district on Tuesday.
The Irawat Day Observation Committee, Wangjing–Tentha AC, organized the program “129th Birth Anniversary of the People’s Leader Lamyanba Hijam Irawat” with solemnity at Khorirol Sanglen, Wangjing.
The program was attended by retired ARCS Kh. Maniton, retired Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School Thoubal teacher Shaikhom Chaoba, Advisors of Wangjing Tentha Kendra Development Committee S. Kesho and L. Brajeshor, Chairman of Irawat Day Observation Committee Wangjing Tentha AC Th. Ibocha, social activist from Wangjing Haobam Robindro (Roben), social activist from Tentha Th.
