Imphal, July 14:

In a tragic incident this morning, one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was killed and two other security personnel have been injured in a fierce gunfight with Kuki militants at Seijang Kuki village in Jiribam District.
The gunfight erupted around 9:30 AM while security personnel were conducting a routine area sanitization operation along the JT road. Militants from Seijang Kuki village, located on the hillside near the JT road, launched a sudden attack on the security convoy.
Initial reports confirm that Ajay Kumar Jha, 39-year-old CRPF personnel, was killed in the exchange of fire. Two other security personnel sustained injuries during the gunfight. The deceased and injured were promptly evacuated, and additional forces were swiftly mobilized to the area. A joint team comprising State Force, CRPF, and Assam Rifles moved towards Seijang Kuki village in response to the attack.
Seijang village, situated approximately 6 kilometers from the Jiribam District headquarters, has been a hotspot of recent conflict. Two days ago, heavy firing was reported from the village towards the adjacent Mongbung Meitei village.
On Saturday around 6:00 PM, suspected Kuki militants set fire to a house in Leingangpokpi owned by N. Sadananda Meitei, an advisor to the Jiri Development Organisation. Following this arson attack, several rounds of gunfire were heard emanating from Seijang Kuki village. These incidents prompted a joint team of State Force and CRPF to conduct an area sanitization operation on the JT road, during which they came under fierce attack from Kuki militants.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh has condemned the attack, stating, “I strongly condemn the killing of a CRPF personnel in an attack carried out by an armed group, suspected to be Kuki militants, in Jiribam district today. His supreme sacrifice in the line of duty shall not go in vain. I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased soldier and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
