Kuki blockade leaves students dependent on military escort

In a stark reflection of the continuing disruption caused by the road blockade near Kanto Sabal under Leimakhong Police Station, in Imphal West district, Army vehicles were deployed on Monday morning to transport schoolchildren to Kendriya Vidyalaya, Assam Rifles, Leimakhong, after their regular commute was obstructed.

According to information received, the transportation operation was carried out at around 7:30 am. A total of 58 students from different communities were ferried from Kanto Sabal using an Army Casspir, an Army truck and a school van driven by a Nepali driver.

The deployment of military vehicles to carry children to school comes in the wake of the continuing road blockade by Kuki groups, which has disrupted the daily movement of students and civilians in the area. Instead of boarding their regular school transport, the children had to travel under Army protection to reach their classrooms.
