Residents of the Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency have urgently appealed to the Governor of Manipur for immediate relief and long-term flood control measures, citing years of recurring devastation along the banks of the Iril and Kongba rivers. The plea was formally submitted today by Kshetri Tama Devi, former Up-adakshya of Imphal East Zilla Parishad, in a memorandum highlighting the urgent plight of flood-affected families.
The memorandum stresses that prolonged flooding has displaced families, destroyed livestock, and severely damaged local agriculture and livelihoods, leaving communities in persistent distress. Despite official surveys and submission of documentation by affected households, the distribution of relief and rehabilitation benefits has been notably delayed, aggravating the hardships of the people.
Km. Tama Devi urged the Governor to ensure immediate provision of relief services, including temporary shelters, food, medical care, and protection for livestock. She called for the swift release of already-processed relief benefits and the implementation of long-term measures such as river embankments, dredging, and protective infrastructure to prevent future flooding. She also emphasized the need for a dedicated post-flood management system at Kshetrigao Kendra to support rehabilitation, livelihood recovery, and enhance community resilience.
Speaking on the occasion, Tama Devi expressed confidence in the Governor’s leadership, stressing that the community’s hope rests on expedited action to provide both immediate relief and sustainable solutions. The memorandum underscores the urgent demand of Kshetrigao residents for proactive government intervention to end the cycle of flood-induced suffering and safeguard the future of their constituency.
