Chandel Forest Division today organized the observance of World Habitat Day 2025 under the theme “Urban Crisis Response”, alongside the 71st Wildlife Week Celebration 2025 on the theme “Human-Wildlife Coexistence”, at the Multipurpose Hall of the DC Chandel Office Complex.
The programme was attended by Md. Firoz Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Naorem Munal Meitei, Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel, Mothil Saka, SDC Headquarter, and K. Pawankumar, Range Forest Officer, Chandel, as dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Naorem Munal Meitei said that the 72nd Wildlife Week is being observed across 16 districts in the state. He added that the celebration in Chandel is supported by church leaders, civil society organizations, youths, women’s societies, self-help groups, and students of the district.
Md. Firoz Khan, ADC Chandel, highlighted the importance of habitats for all living beings, including humans. He noted that the rising human population, deforestation, and poaching are causing significant ecological disruption, leading to environmental changes and untoward incidents globally. He stressed the need for a sustainable development approach to safeguard nature.
As part of the programme, a quiz was conducted, followed by a rally participated in by students from various schools in the district. The rally, starting from Little One School, Chandel District HQ, and concluding at the DC Chandel Office Complex, featured placards carrying messages such as “Plant More Trees”, “Plastic Are Our Enemies”, “Forest is Water, Water is Life”, “Conserve Biodiversity”, “Protect Ecosystem”, “Love Animals, They Are Better Than Human”, “Save Trees, Save the Earth”, and “We Are the Guardians of Nature’s Birth”.
