KLA-L condemns 26 MLAs’ bid to forge government

The Kuki Liberation Army–Letkholun (KLA-L) on Wednesday issued a blistering communique questioning the legitimacy and motives of twenty-six Members of the Legislative Assembly led by former chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh in their attempt to form a new government in Manipur.
The outfit charged that the group of legislators who claim to speak for the entire State appear to hold sway over no more than six hundred and fifty square miles of Kangleipak, and warned that aspiring to govern beyond that narrow footprint amounts to a naked bid for power rather than genuine public service. In sharp language, the KLA-L demanded that the purported representatives first prove they can administer the territory they actually control before laying claim to statewide authority.
Jalai Mang Kuki, Secretary of Information and Publicity of the KLA-L, accused the twenty-six MLAs of pursuing a personal power project that risks deepening the State’s political rupture. The communique urged all MLAs “committed to public welfare” to declare their positions unequivocally and to publish their roadmaps for governance, accountability and reconciliation. The statement also told Kuki legislators to consider resigning from the Assembly if they cannot uphold democratic principles and answer to the communities they claim to represent.
The KLA-L further alleged that the move led by Nongthombam Biren Singh lacked a credible legal and moral foundation, and that it would only inflame existing divisions between hill and valley communities. The group warned that any attempt to impose rule without consent and without first restoring basic civic order would be met with fierce opposition.
The communique invoked the KLA-L’s long-standing rhetoric of sacrifice and liberation, concluding with a call that read, “Give me your blood, I will give you freedom,” and reiterated the organisation’s readiness to defend what it described as the rights and dignity of local peoples.
