People of the state paid fitting tribute to the Khongjom War heroes of Manipur who had sacrificed for the people of the state on Khongjom Tarpan Day.
Large number of people from across the state paid floral tribute Khongjom River, at the foothill of Kheba Ching Khongjom. The Khongjom War Memorial Trust has been observing the day every year for the last 23 years on occasion of the tarpan tribute which begins yesterday as according to the lunar month of Manipuris – the Langbaan Tha.
MLA Th. Bishwajit and President of the Khongjom War Memorial Trust Moirangthem Hemanta along with 2000 volunteers of the UFO paid general salute to the martyrs of Khongjom War and paid floral tribute at Khongjom River.
Speaking on the occasion MLA Th. Bishwajit called on the people to follow the path of our ancestors who had braved every odd for the cause of the people.
“The present generation should never forget the path that our ancestors had chosen”, Bishwajit said.
He further added that development should be brought along with our respect to our ancestors. The tarpan tribute is being observed to refresh our memories and to show that we the present generation are following the path of our ancestors.
President of the Khongjom War Memorial Trust, also Vice President of the BJP Manipur Pradesh, Moirangthem Hemanta while speaking on the occasion the significance of Khongjom Tarpan Day. He said that it is important for the people of the state to give our highest respect to the war heroes who had sacrificed fighting for the freedom of this erstwhile Kingdom. Recalling the courage of our ancestors, Hemanta further added that following the path of the ancestors will also lead towards peaceful coexistence.
On the other hand Hemanta blamed the state government over their failure to fulfill the assurance of constructing the World Largest Sword at Khongjom War Memorial Site.
“The state government had given assurance to construct the world largest sword at the memorial site but is doing nothing,” Hemanta added.
