Locals of Khangabok in Thoubal district staged a sit-in to protest the recent April 22 bomb blast at Manipur University main gate which left labourers injured. In the fateful incident, one labourer identified as N.Romio (19yrs) S/o N.Tombisana of Khangabok Maisnam Leikai sustained injury. Organised by United Youths Club, a public meeting also was held at the club premises wherein many resolutions were adopted to be put up with the government. The meeting presided over by the Ex-pradhan of Khangabok GP N.Modhu Singh formed a JAC against Bomb Blast at Canchipur near MU Main Gate. While seeking clarification from the armed militants behind the blast, the meeting resolved to urge the government for payment of medical compensation of the blast victim N.Romio who is undergoing medical treatment at RIMS. JAC is all set to launch intense agitation if the demands are not fulfilled by the government, report said. The protesters held playcards reading ‘we condemn attack against labourers, attack to labourers is an act of coward, Punish the culprits, don’t convert the state a land of bomb etc. It may be recalled that five persons including labourers, who were on road repairing work, sustained injury when a remote controlled bomb was detonated on April 22 evening near the Manipur university gate which is adjacent to Catholic School Canchipur. In the blast, Ningthoujam Romeo (19) son of Tombisana of Khangabok Part II a construction labourer, Khomdram Bijen (26) son of Birkumar of Yairipok Khoirom, a driver of excavator, Chanambam Ranjan (31) daughter of Sanajaoba of Bishnupur ward No 4, Ngangbam Asha (26) daughter of Dhananjoy of Langpok Maning and Irengbam Jugeswor (65) of Nambol Irengbam were left injured. Till date, no armed group operating in the state have failed to claim hand behind the blast.
