Locals of Kangabok today came out to the street and blocked NH-2 at Kangabok area against the arrest of two persons by Thoubal Police in connection with the killing of Md. Firoj @ Amu. Firoj succumbed to his injury after he was assaulted by group of people at Khangabok New Market area. Police arrested two person identified as Thokchom Heramani (30) son of Th. Angada Singh and Moirangthem Sanathoi Singh (16) son of M Inao Singh of Khangabok Bazar in connection with the dead of Firoj in the intervening night of January 14 and January 15.
A JAC against the arrest of the two person was also formed to protest the arrest of the two person. Since early morning several hundreds of women folk of Khangabok area came out to the road and blocked all vehicular movement along the highway. The locals said that both the persons had nothing to do with the dead of Firoj and said that Firoj died in the hospital. The charge him of stealing things and said that mob beaten him on the day at Khangabok bazaar.
Police had hard time in controlling the agitating locals. Locals club members of Khangabok area along with the Adyakshya Kh. Surnalata met the Superindent of Police Thoubal. The SP informed that the two were not arrested on charge of killing the person but to inquire about the incident.
The JAC alleged that MD. Firoj was assaulted by an angry mob after he was found trying to loot a mobile repairing center. It further said that the person was a drug addict.
