The Military Council (MC) Unification Public Relations Officer of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) has issued a statement making serious allegations against former Wabagai Assembly Constituency MLA Md. Fajur Rahim in connection with drug trafficking activities.
In the statement released on Sunday, the outfit alleged that despite reports of social boycott, the issue of drug-related activities linked to the former legislator cannot be resolved without stringent measures. The group claimed that Md. Fajur Rahim had been involved in drug trade by allegedly misusing his political influence and working in association with close associates, including an individual identified as Hefa Juddin.
According to the statement, on July 22, 2023, Hefa Juddin was arrested in connection with the seizure of drugs reportedly valued at Rs. 5 crore from a Maruti Swift Dzire bearing registration number AS-02 CP-0942. The case is stated to be under trial before the Court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Karbi Anglong, Diphu, under Sections 21(c), 22(a) and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The outfit further alleged that a separate case involved the seizure of heroin worth approximately Rs. 14 crore, weighing 207 grams, along with 50,000 YABA tablets weighing about 4.8 kilograms. The contraband was reportedly intercepted by Guwahati City Police from an ambulance bearing registration number MN-03 C-0037. The vehicle was alleged to be linked to the former MLA. The arrested individual in that case was identified as Mirajaul Islam, also known as Mirajaul Ali, from Rajabala in Meghalaya. The drugs were reportedly being transported from Manipur through Meghalaya and Assam with the intention of smuggling them into Bangladesh.
The statement also claimed that the ambulance in question had earlier been inaugurated on May 21, 2021, during a programme held at the Congress office in Imphal to mark the 30th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It was stated that the event was attended by Congress leaders including K. Meghachandra Singh and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, and that the ambulance was dedicated for COVID-19 related services for the people of Wabagai constituency.
The KCP (PWG) maintained that drug trafficking has severely affected the youth and asserted that it would take action against individuals allegedly involved in such activities. The outfit also called upon the public to remain vigilant and to collectively oppose drug-related crimes in the state.
