Kangleipak Communist Party issues New Year message, calls for peace, reconciliation

The Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has issued its New Year communiqué ahead of 2026, stating that Manipur ends the year still scarred by violence, mistrust and suffering, while calling for reconciliation, accountability and protection of the people. The message, issued by the Party’s Politburo Standing Committee, expressed concern that thousands remain displaced, livelihoods destroyed and the social fabric damaged due to the prolonged ethnic conflict.
In its message, the Party stated that no community in Manipur — whether Meitei, Kuki-Zo or Naga — has benefitted from the bloodshed, and blamed vested interests, profiteers, narcotics-linked groups and political manipulation for sustaining the crisis. It asserted that the conflict has harmed ordinary citizens while empowering a few.
The KCP’s statement highlighted the impact of illegal poppy cultivation, criminal networks and environmental destruction, alleging that these issues have intensified instability and deepened communal divisions. It also claimed that cross-border criminal elements and drug cartels continue to exploit the disturbed situation.
The Party criticised what it called communal chauvinism, distortion of history, political manipulation and propaganda, warning that such trends threaten long-term cohesion and peace. It urged that incidents should be treated as matters requiring fact-based investigation and accountability rather than communal mobilisation.
Calling for peace, the communiqué appealed for reconciliation between communities, balanced demographic understanding, responsible leadership and social justice. It stated that peace should not be interpreted as weakness, but as a responsibility owed to suffering citizens. The Party stressed that reconciliation requires honesty, acknowledgement of mistakes and collective responsibility.
The statement also urged the restoration of land and homes to all displaced persons — both Meitei and Kuki-Zo — saying that returning rightful ownership would be a meaningful step toward normalcy. It warned against divisive agendas, hate narratives and opportunistic elements influencing Manipur’s future.
Concluding its message, the KCP appealed for unity, dignity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among all communities of Manipur, stating that the future stability of Kangleipak depends on rejecting any ideology that promotes communal hatred or exclusion.
