The Kabui Union Manipur has voiced serious concern over the escalating drug menace in the State, stating that the increasing number of drug-related deaths and crimes poses a grave threat to society and the future of its youth.
In a press statement issued today, Dr. K. Hera Kabui, President of the Union, observed that the alarming rise in drug abuse has led to the loss of many young lives and pushed several families into distress. He maintained that such incidents are deeply damaging to the social fabric and require urgent and collective intervention.
The Union acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the Manipur Police, the Narcotics Control Bureau Imphal, and various civil society organisations in combating drug trafficking across the State. Dr. Kabui stated that the law does not distinguish between communities and that enforcement must be carried out firmly and impartially. He added that individuals involved in drug trafficking and related offences must face strict legal consequences.
Referring to a recent case, the Union noted that on February 27, 2026, a joint team of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Imphal, and Manipur Police apprehended a 26-year-old individual at Lilong Yangbi Leikai and seized approximately 1.110 kilograms of suspected heroin. The Union described the seizure as a significant step in the ongoing fight against drug networks.
The statement further mentioned that the State Government has identified several vulnerable localities as Red Zone areas under its anti-drug campaign. The Union urged authorities to intensify checking measures in these areas and called upon local clubs and Meira Paibi groups to actively participate in monitoring and preventing the spread of drugs in their respective localities.
Dr. K. Heera Kabui appealed to all sections of society to unite in safeguarding the future of the State and to work collectively towards eliminating the drug menace. He reiterated that protecting and preserving the identity and well-being of the people must remain a shared responsibility.
