The Government of Manipur has appointed Dr. Supriya Laifangbam, Professor of Microbiology and Dean (Academics), Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), as the new regular Director of the state-run medical institution.
The appointment was made on the recommendation of the Selection Committee at its meeting held on October 5, 2026. An order issued by the Under Secretary (DP), Government of Manipur, stated that the Governor of Manipur has appointed Dr. Supriya as Director of JNIMS on a regular basis for a three-year term with immediate effect.
The appointment carries Pay Level 16 under the Manipur Pay Matrix, along with a special allowance of Rs. 10,000 per month. The order stated that her appointment will be subject to review during the three-year tenure in accordance with the applicable rules.
JNIMS had been functioning without a regular Director for a considerable period, raising concerns over the administration and functioning of the state’s premier medical institution. The teaching community had also been pressing for the appointment of a regular Director from among qualified faculty members of JNIMS.
