The joint students’ bodies of Jiribam district—AMSU, MSF, DESAM and KSA—have withdrawn their school-locking protest at Jiribam Higher Secondary School following the temporary arrangement of a Computer Science teacher by the Education (S) Department.
The protest, which began on October 28, was launched against the transfer of the school’s Computer Science teacher.
Speaking to reporters, Maibam Rohit Singh, General Secretary of the AMSU District Committee, Jiribam, said the department had provided a Computer Science teacher to the school on a utilisation basis from within the district.
He said the students’ bodies decided to call off the protest in view of the academic interests of students and the forthcoming COHSEM and BOSEM examinations.
However, Rohit urged the authorities to appoint a permanent Computer Science lecturer at the school at the earliest. He also stressed that teachers appointed under the Jiribam district quota should be retained within the district to ensure the smooth functioning of educational institutions.
Appealing against the politicisation of the education sector, he said the academic interests of students must remain the foremost priority.
