The meeting which took place from 11.30 am sharp lasted for nearly 1 hour. Soon after the meeting, Convenor of the JCILPS Kh Ratan said to media persons that the Governor showed positive gesture to the proposal of the JCILPS regarding giving his assent to the 3 Government Bills. “We have urged his Excellency to give his assent to the 3 Government Bills passed by the state legislative Assembly on August 31, and even though he did not give any comment due to health problem, is body language says that he is in favour of the demand put up by the JCILPS delegates”, Ratan said soon after the meeting with the Governor. Regarding the opposition from Hill based civil society bodies to the passing of the Bills, Ratan said that it was due to communication gap and misunderstanding. There is nothing in the Bill that would affect the live of the tribal people, it is for the protection of all the indigenous people residing in the state, Ratan added. During the meeting with the governor, the JCILPS assured the Governor that the committee neither has any intention to hurt the sentiments of the hill people of Manipur nor had any intention of alienating the ethnic brothers and sisters of hill regions. Regarding the threats from Bihar based politicians Pappu yadav, Ratan said that the matter is well understood by everyone including the Biharis living in the state. He said such comment which would incite communal enmity is condemnable by all and further added that during the month long agitation for introduction of ILP system for outsiders in the state none of the outsiders has been harassed or driven back to their hometown. “We don’t restrict entry of any outsiders including the foreigner, we are only asking them to take a pass while entering the state” , Ratan said.
