A Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the transfer of the Senior Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lilong Thoubal Municipal Council has warned of intensified agitation, including closure of government offices, if the transfer order is not stayed by April 27.
Speaking to media persons, JAC convenor Imran Ahmed expressed strong resentment over the sudden transfer of the Senior Chief Executive Officer, stating that frequent transfers have adversely affected ongoing development works and disrupted the implementation of government-sponsored schemes. He questioned the rationale behind not allowing the officer to serve a minimum tenure of two to three years, arguing that administrative continuity is essential for effective governance.
Ahmed stated that under the current officer’s leadership, the Lilong Thoubal Municipal Council has undertaken several key development initiatives, including projects under PMAY-1 and PMAY-2, development of a solid waste dumping site at Suptu Karong, door-to-door waste collection, and activities under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He added that significant efforts have also been made to maintain cleanliness and improve infrastructure in and around Lilong Bazar.
He further said that the transfer has come at a critical stage when major projects, including PMAY housing schemes and the development of the dumping site, are yet to be completed and housing loans have not been disbursed to beneficiaries. The JAC strongly objected to the transfer at this juncture and urged the government to immediately put the order on hold.
Setting April 27 as the deadline, the JAC warned that failure to comply would lead to democratic forms of agitation by local clubs, organisations, and residents, including the closure of the Municipal Council office.
Ahmed also informed that a memorandum regarding the issue will be submitted to the Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand.
Representatives from various local bodies and organisations, including caretakers of Wards 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8, United Council for Restoration of Communal Harmony Manipur, Resident Welfare Association Lilong, Lilong Bazar Development Club, Social Development Organisation Lilong, Lilong Turel Ahanbi, SDA Lilong Uku, Mohammadan Sporting Association Lilong Heinou Makhong, United Youth Development Organisation Lilong Uku Mamang, Al-Ameen Cricket Club Lilong Bazar, Jama Masjid Lilong, and EMS Members Welfare Association Lilong, were present during the press interaction.
