Imphal, Aug. 16: People of the state today paid fitting tribute to Pebam Chittaranjan Mangang, who had sacrificed his life by self immolating at Bishempur Keithel on this day in 2004 in protest against the draconian act AFSPA.
The day is observed as Students’ Martyrdom by Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF). In connection with the observance over hundreds of people including students paid floral tribute at Bishempur and Takhelleikai where his mortal remains was cremated. Bishempur Keithel was the place where the anti AFSPA crusader had self immolated in protest against the AFSPA and Takhelleikai is his birth place. The gathering at Takhelleikai after paying tributes at the memorial site later staged a procession till THAU ground Thangmeiband, where an observance function was held in memory of anti AFSPA crusader Pebam Chittaranjan.
At the observance at Thau ground, C. Upendra Singh, Retd District and Session Judge attended as Chief Guest while Kh. Serajudin, President, Manipur Student’s Federation presided over it. Thounaojam Iboyaima, Father of Social worker, president Irabot Foundation Manipur and Prof. L. Sadananda , General Secy. Senior citizen for society Manipur also attended as guests of Honour.
Delivering the Keynote Address, R.N. Koireng, vice president, MSF said that they demand to withdraw AFSPA from Manipur and NE states.
