Demand for Highway Protection Force echoed on 27th Drivers’ Day Observation

Offering floral tributes to the photos of drivers who had lost their lives in many heartfelt incidents and honouring and felicitating the retired drivers and drivers who have become handicapped, marked the 27th Drivers’ Day Observation today at various places of Manipur.
Main function of today’s Drivers’ Day was held at Langjing Achouba Truck Parking ground under the aegis of All Manipur Road Transport Drivers’ and Motor Workers’ Union (AMRTD&MWU).
Social Welfare and Co-Operation Minister, Ak Mirabai Devi, All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State President and AITUC National Vice-President and Ex Minister, Dr Moirangthem Nara, AMRTD and MWU President, S Manglem Singh, Director Transport, Haobam Rosita Devi (IAS), Deputy Labour Commissioner, Government of Manipur, E Tomba Singh, IGP, CRPF of Manipur and Nagaland Sector, Imphal-Manipur, Social Worker, O Henry Singh were chaired as the guests of today’s function and many High Officials of the State and outside State also attended the observance function of the drivers’ day.
Speaking at the observance function at Langjing Achouba Truck Parking, Social Welfare and Co-Operation Minister, Ak Mirabai Devi said that people including the ministers, MLA high ranking officials cannot survive for long, if the drivers stop bringing in the items.
The roles of the drivers are very big as they have performed their duty without depending on the season, rain or cold, whether it is day or night, she added.
Mirabai further asserts that drivers are the brain of the people and they are higher than any high level officials. They have performed their duties amidst dreadful consequences.
Mirabai seeks co-operation of all concerned in the days to come from the public and assured full support from her side in the coming days..
The Social Welfare Minister also donated monetary help to the Union.
Addressing the function, Moirangthem Nara, All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State President and AITUC National Vice-President and Ex Minister expressed the role of drivers and helpers who have played a major role in serving the public. He said they deserve honour and respect from all.
Looking at the coming budget session, possibly by March, members AITU, AMRTD and MWU will meet the leaders of the state to discuss about the Highway Protection Force, Nara asserted in his today’s speech.
A free health check up was also jointly organized by CMO IM and AMRTD and MWU during the observation of Drivers’ day.
Drivers’ Day was also observed at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai Community Hall organized by the Tiddim Road Drivers Union where CMT SP Maibam Rajbihari, OC BPR B Rishikesh Sharma, L Radhamohan Sharma and many known persons attended the function.
