National vice president of Mahila Morcha BJP, A Sarda devi today extended monetary assistance to Sr. Reporter of Sangai Express daily, Athokpam Jiten Singh who is presently undergoing treatment at JNIMS after January 11 evening incident at Keishamthong. Jiten, who is also the Publicity Secretary of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union sustained serious injury at lower and upper jaw after he along with 3 other journalists were attacked by a person identified as M Dujon and his gang on January 11 at around 9.30 pm .
A Sarda Devi handed over a sum of rupees 2000 to Jiten and his family at JNIMS hospital. She was accompanied by N. Itomba Meetei, Pramukh Imphal East and Heinohollen, President, BJP Sadar Hills. Bothe Itomba and Heinohollen also extended monetary assistant of rupees 2000 and 500 respectively to the injured journalist.
Speaking to reporters Sarda Devi said that such incident of assaulting journalist is not a sign of development. She recalled on the need to respect the journalists’ fraternity as they have been serving days and night risking their live for the welfare of the people of this region .
