State government urges Ministry of Home Affairs for Winson’s repatriation

Imphal July 18: State Home Department has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to take up the necessary steps with the Government of Myanmar to return Winson Kamodang, who is presently lodged in Myanmar Jail, to Manipur Sources said that the Joint Secretary (Home) of the Government of Manipur had written a letter to the Joint Secretary (Foreigners), Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs (Foreigners Division) in connection with the matter on the 10th July, 2014. It may be mentioned here that Winson Kamodang (56) who hails from Ramphoi Village in Manipur Ukhrul District which is bordering with Myanmar, had been arrested by the Myanmar army when he had gone to a bordering village, Aung Zeya in Myanmar on November 30, 2013. It is said that immediately after Kamodang was arrested by the Myanmar Army, his family members informed about the incident to Kamjong Police Station. The matter has been brought to the office of the ChiefSecretary and later the SDPO of Moreh was sent to the Chairman of border Liaison Offices in Tamu. However, there was no progress afterward. Family members of Kamodang informed Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) and All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) that Kamodang is currently in a jail at Kalaymyo, Sagaing Division, Myanmar. It is also said that Kamodang has been sentenced to 9 years imprisonment.
